Village Makes Progress With Tree Grant

Village residents may have noticed a number of new tree plantings
along Route 281 in the Village. Funding to complete this beautification
project was provided through a grant from the New York State Urban and
Community Forestry Program. The Village's commitment was $3,000, or
one half of this $6,000 program

As part of this project, 55 new trees were planted on Route 281
beginning at Copeland Avenue and continuing in a northerly direction to the
intersection of Route 41. The tree varieties that were planted include Northern Red Oak, Linden, Sweetgum, Hackberry, Ginkgo, Callery Pear, Sugar Maple and Japanese Zelkova trees. Village resident, Cindy Teter, who is a landscape architect, provided the design at no cost to the Village. The trees were planted by the Village's Street and Parks Department. As part of the grant requirement to educate the public, trees were tagged to identify the species.
