Village of Homer Trash Collection and Recycling

We are using a new contractor, Doug’s Trash Removal. If crows are attacking your trash, please place the trash in an appropriate covered container in the clear bag for collection.

The schedule of areas to be collected:

Mondays: All of James Street. Also, Stanford, Balmoral, Wells, Ferndale, Suits, Miller, Clinton Street Extension, Brentwood, Hudson, Prospect, Bedford, Preston, Burgett, Phelps - essentially everything west of route 281 (West Street). West Street from James Street north.

Tuesdays: All residences north of James Street. All of Main Street, both north and south.

Holiday schedule: If the holiday is on Monday, trash and recyclables will be collected on Tuesday and Wednesday; if the holiday is on Tuesday, Monday and Wednesday will be the collection days.

Please note:
Regular trash must be placed curbside in a clear plastic bag by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Glass, metal and numbers 1 and 2 plastics can be placed in one container, a container that can be easily dumped (for example, a laundry basket, plastic tub or pail, reuseable box). The contractor will not take these items in a plastic bag. Improperly prepared recyclables and trash will, unfortunately, be tagged and left at the curb.

If you have questions, please call Doug's Trash Removal at 607-898-3220.

Compost Site

The Village's compost site is located next to the Village Garage on North Fulton Street. Materials accepted are garden debris, grass clippings, leaves and branches. If you bring debris in plastic bags, please be sure to take the bags home with you. The compost site is ONLY for village residents.

We do NOT accept trees, only branches. Residents who remove trees from their property or have them removed must make arrangements for the trees to be taken to an acceptable site. Residents are permitted to bring branches from tree trimming or storm damage.

Signs are posted at the site to direct you where to put your composting materials. Please note especially the direction branches need to be placed in the pile. Anyone is free to take chips or compost at any time.
